Descrição

Originally from western Asia and southern and central Europe, this biennial herbaceous plant of the Lamiaceae family is widely grown in temperate countries as an ornamental plant but also to produce an essential oil used in the manufacture of liquors or perfumes.

Sage was one of the saving plants of the Middle Ages.

The Greeks, the Romans and the Arabs used it commonly as a tonic and in compresses against snakebites.

Egyptian women were in the habit of drinking their juice to increase their fertility. "Those who have sage in their garden will not need the doctor" (said Provencal).
